Leisure Activities

Sapulpa has many recreational facilities designed to meet the needs of everyone, regardless of age, ability or interest. The young and not-so-young can participate in baseball, basketball, football, tennis, cross-country track, golf, volleyball, wrestling, softball and soccer. In addition, tennis courts and a bowling alley add more opportunities for fun. The Sapulpa Rotary Club splash pad is open daily during the summer months and is located at Liberty Park. Heritage Park is a unique playground, built by community volunteers, is open daily to the public and should be placed on your "must see in Sapulpa" list. The Salvation Army Community Center is a major asset. It provides (through membership and/or activity fee) a host of activity opportunities such as a weight room, a walking track, indoor pool, basketball court, and a general recreational room. The center also provides church services.
Public golf courses like the Sapulpa Municipal Golf Course and Clary Fields offer a delightful challenge to golfers from far and wide. The Oaks Golf Course is also available through membership.

Sapulpa residents and visitors have ample opportunities to hike, bird watch, picnic, and enjoy the playground equipment at several city parks. Sapulpa is also home to Pretty Water Lake and trout fishing. The season begins in late October and runs through early April. Permits are $12.50 for the season. Many fishing docks have been added, and the area is handicapped accessible.
Lake Sahoma, just southwest of Pretty Water, provides fishing from the dock and access for boats. Crappie, bass, perch and catfish are abundant. A new RV park was recently added directly across from the lake. Heyburn Lake, 20 minutes southwest of Sapulpa, is a Corps of Engineers project and offers camping, fishing, hiking and swimming.

Lake Keystone, northwest of Sapulpa near Mannford, offers similar amenities, but also has boat docks and storage space available. A great variety of birds can be found in the area, and eagles are often seen from the shores.

The restored Sapulpa City Library, one of the original Andrew Carnegie Libraries, offers books on every imaginable subject. One of the library's claims to fame is the Genealogy Division, attracting people from across the country.

The three-story Sapulpa Historical Museum located downtown has many photographs of the early history of Sapulpa. In addition, it houses early telephone equipment, World War memorabilia and various era dolls. The Annex, located near the museum, houses an antique fire engine that usually makes an appearance in the annual Christmas parade.

While visiting Sapulpa's historic downtown area you will find several business buildings and churches that date from the 1920s.
Ghost Signs lend a historical touch to downtown. These signs, funded by local school children and private donors, are reproductions of commercial advertisements painted on the sides of the building on which they originally appeared.
For a pleasant evening of entertainment you can attend Sapulpa Community Theatre where productions are presented four times yearly.

Sapulpa Cinema 8 provides the latest in Hollywood releases. A short drive to Tulsa offers additional entertainment venues; The Performing Arts Center, The Tulsa Ballet, Tulsa Philharmonic and Tulsa Opera.
Sapulpa is home to Pretty Water Lake and trout fishing.
